Pastoralists and Graziers Association of WA boosted by donations

WESTERN Australia’s Pastoralists and Graziers Association has received a funding boost from its elected executives as administrators continue to investigate serious financial misconduct in the organisation.

PGA president Tony Seabrook said the lobby group’s elected executives and commodity committee chairs have donated sufficient funds to pay the administrators and continue operations.

Mr Seabrook said the decision to donate to continue operations was made when it was also decided to put the PGA into voluntary administration and appoint RSM Australia partners Jerome Mohen and Greg Dudley as joint and several voluntary administrators.

Mr Seabrook said he did not know how much money had been pledged until it came in, but commitments have been made “with a very high degree of enthusiasm and commitment.”

“I would be very surprised if we don’t have a pretty fair sort of a turnout.

“We discussed a figure of about $3000 per person and as far as I know most of the donations so far have been of the order of $5000 or more.”

Mr Seabrook said the administrators have estimated they would need about six weeks to conclude their investigations.

“It depends on how much time to takes for them to go through the process of discovery as to how much money will be left over.

“But we are hoping there will be enough there to keep the doors open and operating,” he said.

Mr Seabrook said the body is now in a position to accept member’s subscriptions.

“I am very optimistic that we will cover the cost of the administration and have some left over, and as the subs come in we will be up and running.

“Obviously the first amount of money we raise will be to pay the administrators.

“On the face of it, with the enthusiasm shown by members so far, I expect we will get there and we should have enough left over to keep on operating.”

Mr Seabrook said he had had nothing but positive comments and support “across the board.”

“We are going to weather this storm, I promise you that.”
