Online AuctionsPlus wool sellers enjoy consistent market demand

Sheep Central February 28, 2018

AUCTIONSPLUS wool sales last week reflected the solid market as exporters, brokers and growers enjoyed consistent demand from buyers.

AuctionsPlus market operations supervisor Tom Rookyard said with the benchmark AWEX Eastern Market Indicator lifting 8 cents to 1820c/kg clean, 203 bales were sold on the online platform.

“In general, the physical auctions was positive for all combing types.

“In Western Australian, the indicator had 5c and 11c added to it on Wednesday and Thursday to close off at 1895c/kg.”

Mr Rookyard said 15.9 micron fleece wool sold to 2200 greasy or 3121c/kg clean and 16.8 micron fleece made 2150c/kg greasy or 2886c/kg clean.

A 17.1 micron AAAM Merino line made 2015c/kg greasy or 2634c/kg clean and an 18.7 micron fleece line sold to 1630c/kg greasy or 2168c/kg clean.

A 19.4 micron line sold to 1503c/kg greasy or 1988c/kg clean, and 20 micron fleece made 1443c/kg or 1937c/kg clean.

Mr Rookyard said the top-priced lot online was a single bale of SUPAAAFINE 14.5 micron Merino fleece, that had 0.4 percent vegetable matter and was 65mm in length. It was offered by Roberts of Tasmania, branded Glen Stuart and sold for 2800c/kg greasy or 3504c/kg clean.

“Looking forward, this week sees 42,000 bales on offer across all selling centres.

“At Sydney, in addition to the usual wools, there is a designated superfine supply from Newcastle,” he said.

“Expectations are that these quality wools will meet with good support.”
