A UNIQUE course offered through Wodonga TAFE has been designed to specifically meet the needs of people looking for a potential career in agricultural service fields, such as the stock and station agency sector, agri-finance and animal production and health.
The new Certificate IV in Agriculture course focuses on transactional business understanding for agricultural services and supply chain processes between the producer and end user.
The course has been purpose-designed to pass on insights and operational understanding from experienced industry-based subject matter experts to new entrants into service provision fields associated to livestock, wool, merchandise, finance, real estate, cropping, genetics, logistics and equipment sales, and many more.
The course encompasses relationship and negotiation-based skill sets that are transferable across any number of products.
The course starts with key aspects including safety, animal welfare and chain of responsibility understanding before progressing through the various stages of agricultural transactions and the various aspects and complexity within them.
The second stage of the qualification looks at individual development and understanding of the technical aspects of negotiation, presentations and managing complex, multi-faceted tasks such as an auction and negotiation.
The engagement of industry subject matter experts allows real life delivery and provides participants the opportunity to explore career pathway discussions that will benefit them and their employer into the future. Chris Howie from Agri Careers and Consultancy, and a former long-serving national livestock manager with Elders, said the style of program being offered provides a very solid foundation for new entrants to the industry.
“Providing an understanding of why something happens, what the end result will be and how to deliver information of value allow participants to quickly build important skill sets used within many service provision businesses,” Mr Howie said.
“From past experience this form of delivery format provides a three to five year head start for those entering the agricultural service industry.

Participants will develop both practical and theoretical skills through on-the-job training and interactive workshop learning.
Upon completion of the program, participants will have achieved a Certificate IV in Agriculture, a nationally recognised qualification.
