New season lamb sell-off dominates AuctionsPlus offering

These mixed sex May-June 2024 drop first cross lambs weighing 30.9kg at Coonamble in NSW sold for $114 on AuctionsPlus last week.

NEW season lamb listings increased 55 percent to 74,910 head on AuctionsPlus last week and the average crossbred lamb price fell $7.

This category made up 68pc of the 109,430 online sheep and lamb yarding and 76pc were sold, up from 65pc the previous week.

AuctionsPlus commercial sheep and lamb listings jumped significantly this week to 109,430 head offered, 64pc more than the previous week’s offering.

The clearance rate held up well to the increased yarding, to lift 3pc to finish the week at 69pc. The clearance rate at auction was 50pc, indicating plenty of post-sale transactions took place, AuctionsPlus said.

The crossbred lamb indicator fell 5pc to average $124/head. The AuctionsPlus restocker lamb indicator lifted 15c/kg to average 659c/kg dressed. The value over reserve also lifted $3 to average $7/head over set reserves.

Listings were up across New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, with NSW offering an extra 21,326 head this week. Interestingly NSW also purchased an additional 16,216 head of sheep compared to last week, showing there is plenty of movement within the state.

The crossbred lamb offering increased 25,396 head to 47,779, with the average price paid decreasing $7/head to $124.

At Forbes in NSW, 510 March-April 2024 drop first cross wethers weighing 43kg lwt sold for $164, or 381c/kg, to a buyer in Condamine, Queensland.

The average price for first cross ewe lambs fell $4 to $151 last week after dropping $20 the previous week. The clearance rate was 66pc.

At Trundle in NSW, 230 March-April 2024 drop first cross ewes weighing 47kg lwt sold for $209/head, or 447c/kg, to a buyer in Cootamundra, NSW.

A small offering of shedding breed ewes lifted the average per head price to $96/head to average $216/head.
