Naracoorte to hold first Grassland conference in July

Sheep Central, January 19, 2015

Naracoorte will hold its first Grassland Society of Southern Australia annual conference in July this year.

The 56th annual conference of the Grassland Society of Southern Australia will be held at Naracoorte, in SA’s Limestone Coast on July 22-23.

It is the first time the conference has been held in Naracoorte and the first South Australian conference since 2007.

The local organising committee has planned a program embracing soils, pastures, livestock, people and farm business management.

Program to focus on technology advances

Conference convenor Tim Prance said the program was being designed to take in the science and practical application of topics grassland farmers and their advisers require to remain up to date with advances in technology applicable to managing a sheep or beef property with permanent pastures and increasingly changeable seasonal conditions.

The conference program has yet to be finalised but speakers have been approached from around Australia, along with a number of local farmers who are already managing productive and profitable farms.

The program will include farm visits, a dinner and presentations in the Naracoorte Town Hall.

The complete program will be available on the Grassland Society web site at www.grasslands.org.au from late January. For regular updates visit the Grassland Society web site.

Up to 300 people are expected to attend the annual conference. To RSVP contact: Grassland Society of Southern Australia on 1300 137 550 or email [email protected]
