The winners of the 2017 Life and Light Photo Competition will be announced this Friday, August 4 at the Western Landcare Forum, after a strong field of finalists were revealed last week.
The highly regarded competition, which is run by Western Local Land Services and Western Landcare NSW, is in its 19th year and has again proven to be popular with 185 amazing images submitted, all of which showcase the beauty, diversity and uniqueness of the Western region.
Of these 185, 48 have been selected as finalists and remain in the running for part of the $3,900 in prize money.
Images were entered by photographers from Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales, and the Broken Hill area had the highest representatio9n, with 12 images from the region.
While the photos have been judged, Local Landcare co-ordinator, Henry Gregory said trying to predict the winners was very difficult due to the high quality of the photos.
“All the judges remarked how impressed they were with the standard of images, ranging from primary and secondary students up to the open category.
“We are really pleased with the range and variety of images entered, while the theme was ‘healthy landscapes – healthy food’, it still allowed photographers to get creative and submit some amazing images,” Mr Gregory said.
“The Western region itself provides a great backdrop and the fact photographers were able to enter images taken in the region since 1 January 2015 meant there were some real differences in conditions and so forth.”
Winners will be announced for the categories of: Color – open, secondary student and primary student; black and white – open, secondary student and primary student; digitally enhanced, and; people’s choice (All images automatically entered into this category).
