AuctionsPlus to sell largest daily sheep and lamb offering

Terry Sim February 17, 2015

Online agricultural auction company AuctionsPlus will today take bids on its largest daily offering of commercial sheep and lambs.

Market operations officer Anna Adams said AuctionsPlus will offer 79,256 sheep and lambs in four separate sales.

From noon, 23,114 sheep will be offered in AuctionsPlus’ first breeder and replacement ewe sale. This will be followed by the sale of 56,142 sheep and lambs in three standard Tuesday sheep sales starting at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.

“On top of this, we are offering 20 Galaxy White Dorper rams in the seedstock sale, and 54 rams in the New England Lambpro Ram sale.

“This will be the largest ever offering of sheep on a single day,” Ms Adams said.

Restocking is a major focus in the industry, so a targeted breeder sale is a timely option for producers looking to get a good return on quality breeding ewes, she said.

“AuctionsPlus has been proactive in offering our assessors and agents assistance and advice on proven marketing practices for all of our targeted sales, which has led to better quality assessments and improved buyer confidence.

“Vendors have been taking advantage of the protection of a reserve price on AuctionsPlus, which in the current marketplace has allowed them to become price makers,” she said.

Special targetted sales are on Auctionsplus’ agenda

The special breeder and replacement ewe sale is one of many targetted sales AuctionsPlus is planning to offer for the marketing of sheep and cattle.

AuctionsPlus chief executive officer Anna Speer said the targetted sales offer buyers access to the class of stock they were chasing, without having to sit through a sale with various stock all day.

“That’s the aim — long term we don’t to muddy the water with too many targetted sales.

“But what we are aiming for is increasing access to AuctionsPlus for everyone, so they don’t have to wait a full week before they list stock again — they can tap into regular sales,” she  said.

“Long-term, in the next two years I would like to see us having a sale every day of the week.”
