LAMB listings halved to 8684 head on AuctionsPlus last week dropping the total commercial sheep and lamb offering to just over 27,600.
The smaller yarding failed to ignite competition in the market which fell in line with offerings, as clearance reached a subdued 36 percent and value over reserve remained firm on last week at $15, AuctionsPlus said.
Given the low offering, many categories didn’t produce a price change on the previous week due to the small sample sizes, but for those categories that did, most were lower, apart from scanned in-lamb first cross ewes and Merino wether lambs.
The crossbred lamb offerings fell 23pc to 2925 head, and the average prices also decreased by $8 to $85 for the 65pc of lambs sold. At Narrandera in New South Wales, 750 June 2022 drop mixed sex Poll Dorset cross lambs weighing 40kg lwt sold for $90/head, or 228c/kg lwt.
AuctionsPlus sold 58pc of the 2712 Merino wether lambs offered at an average price of $57, up $6. At Longreach in Queensland, 780 October/December 2022 drop Poll Merino lambs weighing 36kg lwt made $60, or 166c/kg lwt.
Only 35pc of the 5087 scanned in-lamb Merino ewes sold for an average price of $97, down $23. At Goolma in NSW, 560 rising three year-old Merino ewes weighing 48kg lwt sold for $115 to a local buyer.
The average price paid for scanned in-lamb first cross ewes jumped by $36 to $174 for 36pc of the 1566 head offered. At Lara in Victoria, 136 rising two year-old ewes weighing 65kg lwt made $210/head with a Victorian buyer.
